Arrest in connection with the investigation into the burglary incident in the city of Hillsboro

A man from rural Ontario, Wisconsin, has been arrested as part of an ongoing burglary investigation in connection with an incident on Kraemer Road in the city of Hillsboro.

According to a press release from Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson, the investigation into the break-in began Thursday morning, June 6.

Randy Lee Harmel, 43, was arrested in rural Monroe County, Ontario, shortly before 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 8. Missing property was also seized from the building on Kraemer Road in rural Hillsboro on Saturday.

Harmel was booked into the Vernon County Detention Center on charges of burglary, criminal damage, theft and probation violation. Vernon County District Attorney Angela Palmer-Fisher is seeking formal charges, including a repeat offense charge.

Torgerson said he credits the arrest and recovery of the stolen property to the hard work, diligence and determination of the sheriff’s office personnel, as well as the information and assistance of the community, which led to a timely resolution of this case. Torgerson expressed gratitude for the assistance of Sheriff Andrew Zobal, the Juneau County Sheriff’s Office, and Sheriff Wes Revels and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
