Local and state police reduce crime rate in Silver Spring

The joint operation lasted Monday through Wednesday and focused on key areas along MD Route 29 and I-495.

SILVER SPRING, Maryland – Montgomery County Police have partnered with Maryland State Police to implement a patrol initiative aimed at reducing crime and improving the quality of life in the Silver Spring area.

The joint operation lasted Monday through Wednesday and focused on key areas along MD Route 29 and I-495. In the Fairland/Briggs Chaney area along Route 29, police were able to accomplish the following:

  • 102 traffic controls
  • 71 summons issued
  • 99 warnings issued
  • 2 arrest warrants
  • 3 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol
  • 1 arrest for handgun
  • 1 stolen vehicle recovered

In a statement, Montgomery County Police Chief Marcus Jones said, “Our partnership with the Maryland State Police exemplifies our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our citizens. By focusing on high-profile patrols and strategic enforcement, we aim to prevent criminal activity and address quality of life issues that affect our community.”
