TRAFFIC ALERT: Nighttime lane/ramp closure planned on southbound I-81 near Salem

As part of the Interstate 81 widening project in Roanoke County near Salem, an overnight lane and ramp closure on southbound I-81 is scheduled for Thursday, May 23, to allow the barrier wall to be repositioned and traffic can be changed to a new pattern.

Weather permitting, southbound I-81 will be reduced to one lane between mile markers 138 and 136 beginning at 11 p.m. Thursday, May 23 through 5 a.m. Friday, May 24. Additionally, the ramp from southbound I-81 to Wildwood will be relocated. The road at Exit 137 will also be closed from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m

If the change in traffic pattern is not possible due to weather, the lane and ramp closure will be postponed until the following week from 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28th to 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29th.

Once the barrier wall is moved, southbound I-81 traffic using Exit 137 will shift to a new pattern and operate on a different section of road.
