Best April Buffalo Sabers win in the 2023/2024 season

Best April Buffalo Sabers win in the 2023/2024 season

We have reached the end of the best winning streak. For the final article, here’s why the Buffalo Sabers’ final game of 2023/2024 was the best win of the month of April. To close out the year, the Sabers faced the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Even though the season itself was disappointing, it’s always disappointing when it’s the last game of the year, at least for me personally. With the Lightning in the playoffs, both teams had nothing left to play for. In addition to being the last game of the season, a few players were playing their last game with the Sabers organization.

One of these guys is Eric Comrie. The goaltender will be an unrestricted free agent and will get the start for Buffalo. There was only one goal scored in the period, and it was the Sabres’ goal, courtesy of Dylan Cozens, that gave Buffalo a 1-0 lead.

Tampa Bay would tie the game through Steven Stamkos before Cozens scored again a few minutes later to make it 2-1 Buffalo. Jordan Greenway made it 3-1 before the end of the second period and the Sabers had a two-goal advantage heading into the final 20 minutes of their season.

Just past the halfway point of the third period, Erik Cernak cut the Sabres’ lead to one. However, 15 seconds later, Zach Benson once again put Buffalo ahead by two and that is how the game ended as Buffalo finished their season with a 4-2 victory.

It was nice to see Comrie play well in what was likely his last game in a Sabers uniform. Eric is in a tough situation because Buffalo has two young and talented goaltenders and wherever he goes I wish him nothing but the best.
