Berkeley coroner publishes sketches and continues investigation into unknown man

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) – The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office continues to ask for the public’s help in identifying the body of a man found dead nearly a year ago.

The man’s body was found in the College Park Road area of ​​Summerville on September 29. At the time, Coroner Darnell Hartwell said the death was under investigation because it was suspected.

When the body was found, Hartwell said it was in an advanced stage of decomposition, making it difficult to identify the man.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office recently received sketches from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s forensic sketch artist.

Hartwell said the man was believed to be Hispanic or Native American and between the ages of 40 and 70. He had gray hair and was wearing a maroon University of South Carolina baseball cap at the time of his death.

He was about 1.68 m tall and weighed between 70 and 79 kg.

According to investigators, he frequently hung out in the area around College Park Road and the Red Oak Circle neighborhood in Summerville.
