Metro Atlanta flooding sees trapped residents, downed trees

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A stormy Tuesday led to some metro Atlanta residents being trapped in their homes and washed out roads and downed trees.

Flooding in Cobb County

Officials said first responders rescued Cobb County residents trapped in their homes by the flooding.

The Cobb County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) said shortly after 7:20 pm that there were around 20 flooded homes in a neighborhood on Coopers Creek Circle off the East-West Connector.

They said some of the residents were trapped in their homes. Firefighters with Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services worked to rescue the trapped residents.

Five homes were affected and have water damage, displacing 19 people.

The American Red Cross is on its way to help those affected. Officials said at least 15 people will need help finding a place to sleep Tuesday night.

Officials said no injuries have been reported.

DeKalb County flooding

Some roads in Dunwoody are seeing flooding. A crew is clearing storm drains that may be blocked on Old Spring House Lane.

A large tree is also down on power lines on N Peachtree Road at Sandell Drive in Dunwoody. The Dunwoody Police Department said traffic is being entertained.

A flash flood warning is in effect for Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett counties.

Downed tree traps wheelchair-bound man in Atlanta

A downed tree trapped a man in his home in Atlanta. It happened in the 1900 block of North Avenue NW. The man, who uses a wheelchair, was rescued, according to Atlanta Fire Rescue.

Power outages

As of 8:45 pm, Georgia Power reports that 73 outages are affecting 2,642 customers.
