Braves reportedly lose superstar as serious injuries continue to mount

The Atlanta Braves can’t seem to catch a break this season.

If you look at the standings, you can’t imagine how much the club has struggled. Atlanta has been one of the best teams in the National League this season, but has been significantly affected by injuries.

The Braves lost Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuña Jr. earlier this season and were hit with another major injury Sunday. Atlanta reportedly lost star infielder Ozzie Albies to a fractured left wrist and he will now miss about eight weeks of action, according to David O’Brien of The Athletic.

“Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies has a fractured left wrist and is expected to be out approximately eight weeks,” O’Brien said.

Albies is the latest Braves star to be injured. The three-time All-Star is one of the best second basemen in the National League and has hit eight home runs, driven in 46 runs and posted a .255/.308/.403 batting average in 89 games played.

He will now miss about two months of competition, with a September return seemingly the best-case scenario. This is another blow to the Braves and could end up altering the club’s plans for the trade deadline, which is just over a week away.

Perhaps the Braves will now look to add a center infielder to help out until Albies can return?
