2 dead, including a pedestrian, in Eisenhower accident on the Near West Side

Two people were killed, including a pedestrian, and several were injured in a traffic accident on the Near West Side early Sunday, police said.

At around 3 a.m., two vehicles were involved in an accident on Interstate 290 near Damen Avenue, Illinois State Police said. Two people were pronounced dead, and at least one of them was a pedestrian, police determined after an initial investigation.

Three people were taken to a nearby hospital with injuries. Their condition is unknown.

The circumstances of the crash are currently being investigated.

The westbound lanes of the highway were closed until about 7:45 a.m., police said.
