CMPD update on fatal police assault expected

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police will hold a press conference at 6:30 p.m. to provide an “important update” related to the April 29 shooting that left four officers dead in east Charlotte.

Three U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force officers and a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer were killed on April 29 after they were “actively fired upon” by a suspect at a home in East Charlotte. In total, nine police officers were injured, including three CMPD officers, a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force member and a CMPD officer who suffered a broken foot in the incident.

The suspect was killed by police during the shootout. The shooting occurred as a U.S. Marshals task force was executing arrest warrants at a home on Galway Drive in east Charlotte.

It is currently unknown what content the update will include, but WCNC Charlotte will stream it live once it begins.

If your loved one was affected by this incident, WCNC Charlotte hopes to make this process less painful with our “More Than a Number” initiative. With your help, we want to tell our viewers in North Carolina and South Carolina who your loved one was.
