Suspect arrested after car theft that left 90-year-old Navy veteran dead

Police have found the suspect they believe killed a 90-year-old Marine veteran during a carjacking in Texas.

21-year-old Kyliel Denzel Arceneaux was taken into custody and charged with capital murder of Nelson Beckett.

After the car theft at a senior residence on Saturday, the homicide squad in Houston was looking for a suspect.

Police said they responded to a weapons call following an assault in the area of ​​10680 Westbrae Parkway and found Beckett lying in the parking lot with gunshot wounds.

Beckett was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

During the preliminary investigation, police said a man attacked Beckett and then shot him before taking the victim’s vehicle and belongings.

Police said the man ran over Beckett while fleeing.

Arceneaux was arrested Tuesday and charged in the 487th State District Court with felony assault, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence.

He is currently being held in the Harris County Jail.

Beckett’s murder was acknowledged by Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

The Republican governor expressed his condolences to Beckett’s family and increased the reward from $5,000 to $15,000.

“Cecilia and I are deeply saddened to hear of the murder of 90-year-old Navy veteran Nelson Beckett in Houston,” said Governor Abbott. “Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones, as well as the entire Houston community, during this difficult time.
