Mr. David Russell Varner

Mr. Varner was born in Union County on August 9, 1949, the son of Paul Ray Varner, Sr., and Mary Catherine Manley Varner. He graduated from Union High School in 1967 and later attended the University of South Carolina at Union where he studied business. Mr. Varner is retired from Timken. He is a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Varner was a member of the Buffalo Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Amanda Moss and husband RL of Union; a son, David Varner, Jr. of Jonesville; a sister, Barbara Ramsey and her husband Steve of Buffalo; two brothers, Bob Varner and his wife Cathy of Buffalo and Paul Ray Varner, Jr. and his wife Jerri of Buffalo; two grandchildren, Lee Moss and his wife Gina and Caroline Ayers and her husband Brett; two great-grandchildren, Luke Moss and Aubrey Moss; a sister-in-law, Marlene Varner; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Harold Varner.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at New Hope Baptist Church, with Rev. Larry Goins and Rev. Johnny Burgess officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Paul Ray Varner, III, Tyler Davis, Nick Davis, Carter Davis, Lee Moss, Brett Ayers, Dee Anthony and DJ Anthony. Honorary pallbearers will be Rex Turner, Ben Wages and Clyde Seymore.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to services at the church.

The family will be at home, 337 Riley Rd., Buffalo, SC 29321.
