Russian forces attacked Sumy Oblast 131 times in 24 separate attacks throughout the day, the Sumy Oblast Military Administration reported on May 31.

The municipalities of Khotin, Yunakivka, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Myropillia, Seredyna-Buda, Mykolaiv, Svesy and Esman were targeted.

During the day, Russia attacked the border communities with mortar shells, drones and artillery, and also dropped explosives from drones on two of the communities.

No casualties or injuries were reported.

Most of the attacks were reported in the village of Esman, located about 24 kilometers west and 10 kilometers north of the Ukrainian-Russian border. 29 explosions were recorded in the area.

Russian attacks on Sumy Oblast are increasingly destructive in recent months. In view of the increased attacks, the Ukrainian authorities ordered an increased Evacuations from the region.

The head of Ukrainian military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, said on May 14 that he expected Russia launch a new attack in Sumy Oblast as soon as the situation in Kharkiv Oblast has stabilized, the New York Times reported.

Officials of the Ukrainian border guard later said that Russia does not have enough troops on the border of Sumy Oblast to launch a major attack on the region.

Artillery shelling has become a daily occurrence in communities near Ukraine’s northeastern border with Russia, with residents of vulnerable border settlements in the region facing multiple attacks a day.

A Russian Missile attack On May 29, two civilians were killed and three others injured in the village of Krasnopillia, Sumy Oblast.

“The recommendations apply to the northern border in the Kharkiv and Sumy oblasts, from where Russian forces are firing on Ukraine,” said Michael Carpenter, senior director for Europe at the U.S. National Security Council.
