Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills to headline Week 2 of Thursday Night Football

With Wednesday’s schedule release fast approaching, the NFL has lost six (and counting) of its most exciting early-season matchups. On Tuesday, the league revealed that the AFC East would be highlighted on Amazon Prime’s first Thursday Night Football game. The game will pit the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills, who have battled for the division title in recent years.

The game, scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET on Thursday, September 12, is a chance for the Dolphins to start their season off on the right foot, as the Bills have been their kryptonite in recent years. In 2023, Miami went 0-2 against the upstate New York franchise. The second of two losses was crucial, forcing the Dolphins to travel in freezing temperatures to Kansas City, where their season finally ended.

Both teams have undergone major changes this offseason. The Bills lost important pieces on offense, including four-time Pro Bowl receiver Stefon Diggs. The Dolphins took a big hit in free agency, parting ways with key defensive playmakers.

The AFC East rivals are having very opposite seasons. As the Dolphins’ strong start fizzled, the Bills turned their 5-5 record into the playoffs. Mike McDaniel and Co. look to maintain their momentum through the 2024 season after back-to-back disappointing playoff performances.

This year, the Dolphins and AFC East will face the AFC South and NFC West as well as a 17th game against a similarly seeded NFC North opponent. For the Dolphins, that means a game against the Green Bay Packers.

The rest of the schedule will be revealed at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, May 15 on ESPN.
