Suspect arrested in fatal knife attack on Capitol Hill in Eatonville – KIRO 7 News Seattle

SEATTLE – A 26-year-old man has been arrested in the brutal stabbing of a local chef at the Capitol Hill light rail station.

At 6 p.m. Monday night, Seattle police announced that the suspect was behind bars. The U.S. Marshal’s Task Force took him into custody early Monday in Eatonville.

The impact of his death is felt far from the restaurant where he worked.

KIRO 7 hears from others who have been attacked on the light rail. The good thing is that they survived to tell their story. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case for the chef who worked here at Harry’s Fine Foods.

“He was a great person,” said a fellow chef.

He came with his son to honor his friend, whom he knew only as “Corey,” the kind, talented chef he worked with at a restaurant in Kirkland.

“And he has shown incredible tenacity,” he said. “And his skills as a chef were absolutely incredible. I think about his food all the time.”

Unfortunately, that time is now over.

It was news to Rachel Primeau that a 37-year-old man was stabbed to death at the Capitol Hill Link light rail station late Saturday afternoon. But then she remembered her own harrowing story of being attacked at another train station earlier this year.

“And a young man came up to me, hit me with a hockey stick and ran,” she said. “And it gave me a concussion. I was bleeding from my head. And there was no one who could help me. No one.”

She says only her boyfriend at the time was there to help.

“He ran after him and then was able to bring him back to apologize to me,” she said. “But it was just bizarre. No security. Nothing.”

That is certainly not the case in the hours since this latest death. Eyewitnesses tell us that the victim, a local chef we know only as “Chef Corey,” was brutally stabbed multiple times. Good Samaritans tried to staunch the blood, but even paramedics couldn’t save him. He later died at Harborview Medical Center.

In response, Sound Transit increased security at the Capitol Hill station. It’s part of their $250 million security allocation, twice as much protection as in the past, a spokesperson tells us. And the drivers noticed. But they say it may not be enough.

“Transit in general is a high-voltage place,” said Alec Remington of Seattle. “So, any way to alleviate that or calm things down. Security presence is not always enough.”

It’s all too late for this man.

“He was my friend,” said his former colleague.

Corey was the sous chef at Harry’s and was described as an “incredible human being.”

There was a “private vigil” for him yesterday to help those who knew and cared for him “come to terms with the loss.”
