Muslim man arrested for attempting to marry and ‘rape’ a Dalit Hindu

Ghaziabad: A 38-year-old Muslim was arrested here for allegedly luring a Hindu Dalit woman into marriage under false identity and then raping her, police said on Monday.

The accused Danish, who had alibi Dev, was arrested by officials of Sahibabad police station here, a senior officer said.

“The woman met ‘Dev’ about one and a half years ago when she was applying for a driving license. According to her complaint, in April last year, ‘Dev’ persuaded her to wear a ‘mangalsutra’ and enter into a physical relationship during a visit to a hotel in Sahibabad,” said Rajneesh Upadhyay, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sahibabad.

“They subsequently lived together in a rented apartment in Dasna, where she became pregnant. Danish secretly gave her an abortion pill and only after the termination of the pregnancy did she learn of his real identity,” Upadhyay added.

When the victim discovered the truth, she confronted Danish at his home in July this year, where she was allegedly attacked by his family members, he said.

A Zero FIR was then filed at Kapurpur police station in Hapur district and later transferred to Sahibabad police station. Formal proceedings were initiated on September 12.

Upadhyay said the presence of both the victim and Danish in a hotel in Sahibabad was confirmed by evidence.

Danish has been charged under Sections 115(2)/123(2)/318(4), 64 and 3(2)5 of the SC/ST Act and sentenced to imprisonment, the official added.
