PASSCO MD has been suspended for negligence in the wheat procurement process

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered the suspension of the Managing Director and General Manager Procurement of Pakistan Agricultural Storage & Services Corporation (PASSCO) for not following instructions regarding use of technology in wheat procurement process and acting negligently in this regard.

While chairing a meeting on wheat stocks in Lahore on Monday, he directed officials to conduct a third-party audit of PASSCO stocks.

“For the economic security of farmers, crop insurance should be ensured,” he said, directing the authorities concerned to use technology to make the wheat procurement process clean and transparent.

A mobile phone application should be developed for this purpose, he said.

The Prime Minister directed PASSCO to procure 400,000 tonnes of additional wheat transparently and efficiently. “The farmer’s loss will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”

Efficient PASSCO centers and officers would be selected and recognized at the government level, he added.

“The government is taking all possible steps to ensure food security in the country and take comprehensive measures for the prosperity of farmers,” said Prime Minister Shehbaz.
