8-year-old dead after accident in McLean County

McLEAN COUNTY (25News Now) – The McLean County Coroner says an 8-year-old boy died following a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday night.

According to Illinois State Police, the accident occurred just before 10 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 74 near mile marker 139.

According to state police, for unknown reasons a passenger car crossed the median and struck a pickup truck and a semi-trailer.

The drivers of the car and the van were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

The 8-year-old was a passenger in the car.

The driver of the semi-trailer was not injured.

The highway was reopened at around 4:40 a.m. on Thursday.

The crash is being investigated.
