New York Yankees vs. Atlanta Braves: How to watch, channel, lineups

This home trip started off on the wrong foot, with the Yankees taking a lead over the Orioles before floundering in the next two games. This second series has the makings of a mirror opposite: the Yankees were destroyed in the first game, but responded strongly to even things up. Now they can take the series head-on and turn what was a bad week overall into a balanced development in the grand scheme of things.

Nestor Cortes steps to the back of the pack with all that up in the air, looking to continue what has been a fantastic bounce-back season. Cortes had a 3.36 ERA in 16 starts this year, working 93.2 innings and collecting 86 strikeouts and 18 walks in the process. He’s coming off the best outing any Yankees starter has had in the Baltimore series, throwing six shutout innings and striking out six. Although he hasn’t been as good as he was in May, Cortes has been one of the most consistent starters in the rotation this year, a perfect answer for a team in need of a pick-me-up.

He will face stiff competition, however, as Atlanta strikes back with Max Fried. The fellow southpaw has been just as strong all year, with a 3.11 ERA in 14 starts and 76 strikeouts to 27 walks in 84 innings. That’s a significantly higher number of free passes on Fried’s side, but he has limited contact against himself and has allowed a miniscule .557 OPS against, which has led to his success. His final outing came on the shorter side as Detroit took him out of the game after 5.1 innings, but he only allowed one run.

With Giancarlo Stanton now on the IL, Aaron Judge can move around a bit and step into the DH spot on this scorching afternoon. Trent Grisham will occupy center after the circuit yesterday. DJ LeMahieu returns to the lineup at third, with Ben Rice at first.
