Dr. Bryan Johnson named sole finalist for Atlanta Public Schools superintendent | Georgia

A former Hamilton County Schools superintendent is the only finalist in the search for the next Atlanta Public Schools (APS) superintendent.

Dr. Bryan Johnson was named the sole finalist Tuesday morning by the city’s school board.

Dr. Johnson left Hamilton County Schools in 2021 for a position with US Xpress, a trucking company based in Chattanooga.

Dr. Johnson later became the former Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Strategy Officer at UTC.

Under Georgia law, the school board must wait two weeks, or 14 days, before taking a vote to officially hire Johnson.

Dr. Danielle S. Battle currently serves as APS Interim Superintendent.
