Family of slain parole officer says he was a ‘soul mate’

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Maryland (DC News Now) — The family of Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) agent Davis Martinez speaks exclusively with DC News Now following his death.

Police said they were called to the 2800 block of Terrace Drive in Chevy Chase around 5:50 p.m. on May 31 to check on the welfare of a parolee who had not reported back to work after checking on 54-year-old Emanuel Edward Sewell, a registered sex offender.

When officers went to the parolee’s home, they found the parole officer dead.

The parole officer was identified as 33-year-old Davis Martinez.

Martinez’s family remembers him as a bright mind and a hard worker, calling him a “true trailblazer.”

“He was a soul mate – a soul mate. There’s really no word to describe Davis. I would say he was always comfortable in his own skin,” said Davis’ brother Michael Martinez.

54-year-old Emanuel Edward Sewell – a registered sex offender who was released from prison in 2021 – was caught and arrested while traveling on I-64 near Hurricane, West Virginia.

Sewell has been charged with first-degree murder and will be extradited to Montgomery County.
