Three robberies keep politicians busy in Arlington

Arlington County Police recently reported a series of robberies; two arrests were made and one suspect is still at large.

• On May 29 at 2:24 p.m., a man entered a store in the 5000 block of Columbia Pike, concealed merchandise, indicated he had a gun and left the store without paying, Arlington police said.

About four hours later, a suspect, later determined to be the same suspect in the earlier incident, entered a store in the 200 block of North Glebe Road, broke a display case and began hiding merchandise before being confronted by an employee, police said.

As the suspect attempted to leave the store, an argument broke out between him and the employee over the stolen goods, police said.

The officers arrested the suspect on the spot.

The suspect, 43-year-old Maurice Cox, of no fixed address, was charged with two counts of robbery and criminal damage but was held without bail.

• On May 29 at 2:25 p.m., a man entered a business in the 1800 block of North Monroe Street, demanded food and brandished what appeared to be a firearm, Arlington police said.

The suspect then stole food and fled the scene on foot, police said.

Officers found the suspect at the corner of Wilson Boulevard and North Fort Myer Drive and arrested him without incident. A search during the arrest resulted in the seizure of a toy gun and suspected drugs, police said.

The suspect – 23-year-old Jeremiah Crans of no fixed address – was arrested and charged with robbery and possession of a Schedule I/II controlled substance. He was held without bail.

• On May 29 at 7:26 p.m., a man entered a store in the 800 block of North Randolph Street and stole cash from a cash register, Arlington police said.

When the suspect was confronted by two employees, he attacked both and pulled out a stun gun before fleeing the scene on foot, police said.

The employees’ injuries were not life-threatening, police said. One was treated on site by paramedics, the other refused treatment.

The suspect is described as a black man, between 25 and 30 years old, wearing a black raincoat and black pants.
