With summer vacation approaching, school supplies for fall are the last thing on people’s minds right now.

But make no mistake, because donations for the third annual Jonathan D. Daniels, MD Memorial School Supply Drive: “The Next Generation of Transformational Leaders,” are being accepted from June 3 to July 1.

The list of donations is available on this Amazon link.

Daniels, associate director of admissions at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo and a 1998 graduate of the Jacobs School, died July 4, 2022, along with two of his adult daughters, Jordan and Jensen, in a fire in their North Buffalo home. He was a beloved member of the Buffalo and Jacobs School communities.

Before his death, he had worked with Beatriz González, an interdisciplinary natural sciences graduate from the Jacobs School, and her admissions team to organize a school supply drive. This was an effort to provide tools for success to children in underserved areas of Buffalo.

Each year, the goal is to distribute 300 filled backpacks to K-8 students in the Eastside neighborhood where Daniels’ pediatric practice was based.

The backpacks will be distributed to local children from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 27, in the parking lot of Care Medical Practice, 1315 Jefferson Ave., Buffalo. Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
