Houston Astros trade pitch lands former MVP for two Cardinals prospects

Are the Houston Astros back on track? After winning six straight, the Astros look like the team every fan knows. It was as difficult a start to the season as you could imagine. but they’ve played as well as anyone recently, going 8-2 in their last 10 games.

This stretch doesn’t do much to change their early season struggles, but it’s unfair to say that will happen until they get healthy. Houston has dealt with numerous injuries, which is why they started the season the way they did.

If there’s one team that knows how to win when their backs are against the wall and people doubt them, it’s the Astros. Now, just four games out of first place in the American League West, it appears Houston will be in the right position to win the division again.

The deadline will be interesting in the championship, especially for this club. Alex Bregman enters free agency at the end of the year and other players could be trade pieces, but it’s possible they are buyers.

In a trade proposed by FanSided’s Zach Pressnell, the Astros would be buyers, attracting former MVP Paul Goldschmidt in a deal. The deal would send AJ Blubaugh and Colin Barber to the St. Louis Cardinals.

“Paul Goldschmidt is in desperate need of a fresh start. The veteran first baseman won the MVP award just two seasons ago,” Pressnell wrote. His skills haven’t diminished that much in just two years. Additionally, he would be an improvement over Abreu and Jon Singleton, who have both struggled as much as Goldschmidt this year. »

Goldschmidt, who has been one of the best players in baseball during his career, had a rough start to the season. He’s currently slashing .214/.295/.306 with just four home runs. However, when Goldschmidt is at his best, he is someone who can post an OPS above .850 and hit 30+ home runs.

A seven-time All-Star, the hope would be that he returns to form, which is entirely possible for the 36-year-old.
