Arrest after 11-year-old child shot in the head in Peoria

Police responded to the 700 block of East Kansas Street at around 4:52 p.m. Sunday, where they found an 11-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Micah D. Stitts, 26, was “present when the shooting occurred,” police said. Stitts was arrested by police on a warrant and on charges of endangering the health and life of a child. He was taken to the Peoria County Jail.

A 17-year-old youth who was also present when the shooting occurred fled the scene, police said.
