Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi has called for an international investigation into Israeli “war crimes” in the besieged Gaza Strip, saying those responsible for documented crimes should be brought to justice.

Safadi made the appeal at a news conference on Sunday with Philippe Lazzarini, the head of UNRWA, the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees.

“Numerous and documented war crimes have been committed in the Gaza Strip,” Safadi said.

“We call for a full international investigation that puts an end to these war crimes and brings those responsible for these crimes to justice or proves who is responsible for these crimes,” he added.

Earlier in the day, at least 31 Palestinians were killed and dozens more injured in Israeli regime airstrikes on the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central part of the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli bombings came hours after the regime carried out a series of intense airstrikes and targeted Gaza’s Bureij and Jabalia refugee camps with heavy artillery.

Safadi’s comments echo South Africa’s comments at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) last week, where Pretoria alleged Israel’s “genocidal” intentions against the people of Gaza.

South Africa filed a complaint against Israel with the International Court of Justice in January, about three months after the regime began its brutal aggression against Gaza. The complaint asked the court’s judges to declare that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza and order the regime to stop its attacks on people.

Israel unleashed its brutal war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, after Palestinian resistance groups carried out Operation al-Aqsa Storm against the occupied territory in retaliation for increasing atrocities against the Palestinian people.

The regime in Tel Aviv has so far killed at least 35,456 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured over 79,366 others.
