On April 24, the Heisman Trust announced its decision to return Bush’s trophy, citing the “tremendous changes” that have since been made in the world of college football, according to CNN – the NCAA’s “Name, Image and Likeness” (NIL) policy, which allows college players to enter into brand partnerships.

In 2010, Bush surrendered his Heisman Trophy after an NCAA investigation found that he had received money and merchandise from USC that were not allowed under NCAA rules, making him ineligible.

“We have considered the tremendous changes in college sports over the past few years and decided that now is the right time to re-award the trophy to Reggie,” Heisman Trust President Michael Comerford said in a statement released in April 2024.

After announcing that he would finally receive his award again, Bush posted a photo of his Heisman Trophy with the caption: “No one can take away what God intended for you.”
