According to police, an Atlanta police officer acted “decisively,” putting himself in danger and shooting the suspect before he could hurt anyone else.

Police identified the victims as a 47-year-old man from Grayson, a 69-year-old woman from East Point and a 70-year-old woman from Atlanta.

According to police, the suspect has already served a prison sentence and has been arrested eleven times.

Numerous police officers and firefighters were dispatched to the building on Tuesday afternoon. The building was cordoned off. It has since been evacuated and pedestrian traffic in the area has resumed.

Audrey Washington from Channel 2 has learned that two of the victims were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and the other two to Emory Midtown.

Michael Doudna from Channel 2 spoke to a witness, Kemba Walker Jr., who said he and his girlfriend had just come from the passport office when the shooting started.

“I hear a gunshot and then I think someone dropped something and then I hear another gunshot and another gunshot and another gunshot,” Walker said. “And then I see people scattering and running around.”

Walker said he called out to his girlfriend, who was in the bathroom at the time, and pulled her into a back room.

“And there was someone on the ground. They were shooting back and forth, the officers and the person,” Walker said.

Walker said the incident lasted 25 to 30 minutes. He said he heard about 25 gunshots.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist.
