Houston man commits suicide after killing his child’s mother, trying to flee with 2-year-old on bike

HOUSTON – A woman was shot and the shooter seriously injured after turning the gun on himself in Independence Heights, according to the Houston Police Department.

The man’s relatives told police that he and the woman had argued in the home where they lived with their 2-year-old child and other family members.

The suspect fled the scene on a bicycle with the small child, but was spotted by officers about a half-mile from the home, police said. Before police could speak to the suspect, they say he pulled out a gun and shot himself.

He underwent surgery Friday afternoon and is expected to survive and face charges.

Police found the woman’s body at the rear of the house.

The child was not physically injured in the shooting and was left in the care of a grandmother.
