Beaver Island Parkway Bridge reopens to traffic

The Beaver Island Parkway Bridge over the Niagara Thruway (I-190) in Grand Island has reopened to traffic, Governor Kathy Hochul announced Friday.

The bridge was replaced as part of an $8.3 million project that included increased clearance height, wider travel lanes and a new travel surface. It now includes wider travel lanes and emergency shoulders, increasing vertical clearance on I-190 from 14’2″ to 16’9″, a new guide rail, a new concrete running surface and a new line marking.

“Replacing the Beaver Island Parkway Bridge is one of many infrastructure investments in Western New York aimed at modernizing our transportation system and providing safe, reliable roads and bridges for decades to come,” said Governor Hochul. “These projects are an investment not only on the road, but also in communities, improving the lifestyle of residents and improving the travel experience for thousands of motorists.

The project started in March 2023.
