Police in the southern coastal town of Vung Tau have arrested a man for raping a woman and sexually assaulting another.

Pham Vinh Long, 34, from the northern city of Hai Phong, is currently being investigated for rape.

Police said that around 3 a.m. on May 13, a 29-year-old woman was driving a motorcycle on Vo Nguyen Giap Street when a man approached her and forced her to stop.

He claimed to be a “criminal cop” and demanded to show their identification documents.

Shortly afterwards, the woman realized that she had been cheated, abandoned her motorcycle and ran away.

He chased her on his motorcycle, caught her and then raped her. When the crime happened, no one was there and he only stopped and fled when a car tried to drive past.

She later went to the police and filed a report.

Two days before this incident, a 43-year-old woman was walking for morning exercise at 30 Thang Tu Street in the city when she was sexually assaulted by a man.

According to this woman, he approached her from behind and dragged her to a secluded place.

Both women’s descriptions matched and police extracted footage from multiple traffic surveillance cameras to arrest Long.

He confessed to the crime.

Long was just released from prison for a month after serving a 13-year sentence for rape and robbery.
