Driver arrested after high-speed chase

LAUREL, DEL – On June 8 at approximately 2:50 a.m., a Laurel Police Department patrol officer attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of ​​Sussex Highway and Georgetown Road. The first attempt was made after the officer noticed the vehicle traveling in excess of 100 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Instead of stopping, the vehicle accelerated to elude the officer and a pursuit was initiated. The vehicle continued to drive eastbound off the Sussex Highway on small, two-lane service roads at over 100 mph in a highly reckless manner. During this time, the pursuing officer reported that the vehicle’s lights went out while it was running multiple stop signs, lane usage and other dangerous traffic violations at a high rate of speed. The first officer terminated the pursuit as the vehicle continued to flee eastbound toward Georgetown.

Shortly thereafter, an officer with the Georgetown Police Department noticed the vehicle still traveling over 100 miles per hour on Seashore Highway and again attempted to make a traffic stop. The vehicle again failed to stop and the officer decided not to proceed in the interest of public safety.

Several officers from Laurel, Georgetown and Bridgeville police departments, as well as Delaware State Police patrol officers, searched the area in search of the vehicle while the Delaware State Police helicopter “Trooper 2” searched for it from the air. The vehicle was soon located a third time on Old Furnace Road in Seaford, where it was successfully stopped and the driver taken into custody without further incident.

The driver was identified as Isa T. Davis, a 25-year-old from Georgetown, DE. He was transported to the Laurel Police Department and charged with the following offenses:

-Disregarding a police officer’s signal (Class G felony)

– Resisting arrest (Class A misdemeanor)

– Reckless driving (misdemeanor)

-Several additional traffic violations
