Tomorrow’s heat warning should be taken very seriously. Actual temperatures are expected to remain between 32 and 35 degrees Celsius, but with the humidity it will be much warmer. The heat index for the day could reach 109 degreesand it will be “like” over 100 degrees for most of the day.

Spending long periods of time in the sun or heat can lead to dehydration, heat stroke, or other heat-related illnesses. It’s important to stay safe, especially during the holidays when many people are spending the day outdoors.

In short, stay cool and hydrated. Be sure to drink plenty of water and hydrating beverages, avoid the sun as much as possible, and try to stay in an air-conditioned room. We also recommend wearing lighter, looser clothing, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities, and moving to a cool, shaded, or air-conditioned room if you feel unwell due to the heat. Of course, there are still plenty of fun activities to do outside, but remember to take breaks indoors and out of the sun! And wear your sunscreen!

It is also important to remember that heatstroke is a medical emergency. If you or someone else suffers from it, call 911.

Enjoy your 4th of July, Atlanta, but remember to stay cool, stay safe, and don’t get too hot!
