Orlando City B uses late goal and penalty shootout to beat Atlanta in USL

City of Orlando Communications — Orlando City B (4-4-6, 21 points) drew 2-2 with Atlanta United II (3-6-3, 13 points) thanks to an injury-time goal by Favian Loyola at Osceola County Stadium on Wednesday night. The Lions earned an extra point by winning the penalty shootout 5-3.

Forward Wilfredo Rivera returned to the starting lineup after two games with the first team and gave the Lions an early 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. Atlanta United 2 scored twice late in the second half to take the lead heading into injury time. Second-half substitute Favian Loyola, however, scored his 10th career OCB goal in the final minutes of added time to secure the draw for the Lions. Loyola has spent the last 20 days playing for the Chilean U-20 national team. Rivera got his third assist of the season on the equalizer.

Jhon Solís, Wilfredo Rivera, Colin Guske, Favian Loyola and Shak Mohammed scored in the penalty shootout. Goalkeeper Carlos Mercado made a save to secure the extra point.

The Lions’ next game is Sunday, when Carolina Core FC makes its second trip to Osceola County Stadium. That game will kick off at 7 p.m.
