Our first 90° day of the year expected today in Houston

Tuesday’s forecast:

We are going up to 90° for the first time this year. It’s been a long time since we were at 90° or above. Our last 90 degree day was October 21st. To learn more about 90 degree climatology, check out Frank’s blog here. We will also have a heat index ranging from 100°105° the next three days.

Be careful if you spend a lot of time outside. Our body is not yet used to this kind of heat. If you are cleaning your property, make sure you stay hydrated as this heat can lead to exhaustion.

Dew points reach the upper 70s Wednesday.

Cool front Thursday:

Our next cool front is expected Thursday evening. This front brings a severe weather threat. It’s a rapidly evolving phenomenon, meaning the biggest threat is wind damage. This rapid movement will prevent it from bringing much rain. Rain totals range from a tenth of an inch to a half-inch of rain.

10-day forecast:

The only thing we will be watching next week is the possibility of a stuck trough of low pressure near Southeast Texas. This would be similar to the weather pattern we had last week. It’s too far away to know if the low is holding so for the moment I’m going there with a risk of rain from Monday to Thursday.

Current flooding in Harris County:

Stream and river conditions are below. You can also consult our flood monitoring. Avoid parking along creeks, rivers and creeks. Never go around a barrier. Don’t let this week’s sunshine fool you, flooding may still be present in some areas. Not only can you be swept away, but floodwaters also hide dangers that can cause illness, injury, or even death. Don’t let children play in flood waters!
