Hadassah members of Houston are always finding ways to reach the Greater Houston Jewish community. “Senior outreach is an important priority of all Hadassah groups in Houston,” said Harriet Eisenstein, president of the Houston chapter. Hadassah members regularly spend time with residents of senior care communities.

Providing seniors with opportunities for social engagement, camaraderie and education, Hadassah groups have joined forces to share Shabbat dinners with residents of Houston’s assisted living communities.

In April, more than 20 Hadassah members shared a Purim-themed Shabbat dinner at Medallion. It was a memorable event during which Hadassah residents and members shared a lovely time singing songs, led by Medallion Cantor Sharon Colbert and Rabbi Avigayl Young. Afterwards, Rabbi Young lit candles and Israel Board of Trustees President Sheila Train shared a special d’var Torah.

In May, The Medallion hosted the group’s reunion. The event was organized by Houston Chapter board member Carol Gaines. Eisenstein, Hadassah Greater Southwest Region President Karen Kessler and Gaines presented a special certificate to Life Member Dolores Klickstein, who had just turned 100 years old.

The meeting began with greetings from Marsha Cayton, Chief Operating Officer of Seven Acres, Jill Newman, Director of Activities, and Loren Gordon, Director of Sales and Marketing of The Medallion. More than 21 Hadassah members attended the event and were treated to a buffet of fresh fruit, cookies and drinks. After the business meeting, Hadassah members were joined by 20 Medallion residents to enjoy a lively afternoon of bingo, complete with prizes, courtesy of the Medallion.
