Canadian woman claims fashion mogul Peter Nygard drugged and raped her in the Bahamas

A Canadian woman has spoken out about her allegations against fashion mogul Peter Nygard. He is said to have sexually harassed her in his seaside villa in the Bahamas over 20 years ago.

Jane Doe 16, as she is called in the USA Civil class action lawsuit Nygard accused of sexually harassing and raping 46 women, including 17 Canadianssays she was 19 at the time.

She is the first Canadian to speak publicly in the lawsuit about what she says happened to her.

The lawsuit was filed in February in the Southern District of New York.

The lawsuit alleges that Jane Doe No. 16 was drugged, raped and anally abused by Nygard in 1998 while she was staying at his palatial Bahamas estate. “Nygard then turned Jane Doe No. 16 over to his friends in exchange for something of value, who also raped and anally abused her,” the lawsuit states.

None of the allegations made in the lawsuit could be proven in court.

Nygard also faces two other lawsuits in the US from two women who accuse him of sexual assault. He denies all allegations.

Nygard is a multimillionaire fashion magnate whose Winnipeg-based company included several clothing lines and 169 retail stores in North America and employed 1,450 people worldwide. In March, a judge in Manitoba ordered the company declared bankrupt.

“He said I could enjoy the beach”

Jane Doe 16 said she met Nygard through her tennis coach in the Bahamas.

“He kept referring to this person as ‘boss’ or ‘boss’ and said that there was a fantastic tennis court on his property and that he would love to take me there to play tennis with him,” she said in a joint interview with CBC and CTV News.

At Jane Doe’s express request, CBC is not revealing her identity.

“Peter Nygard absolutely and categorically denies the allegations made by Jane Doe 16,” said Nygard’s Winnipeg-based lawyer Jay Prober.

“It is likely that this is another plaintiff who was paid to give false testimony.”

In the lawsuit, Jane Doe 16 states that she visited Nygard’s property three times, after which he invited her to “stay as long as she wanted.”

“He said I could enjoy the beach and the tennis and that it would be great. And I thought, you know, that was wonderful.”

But she says it wasn’t wonderful for long.

“He started touching me and asked me if I had ever had anal sex,” she said in the interview. “I was horrified and thought, ‘No, that’s awful.’ I can’t do that, no. I was really uncomfortable. I said, ‘No, that’s not something I would ever do.'”

In the lawsuit, she claims she was drugged.

“And I didn’t know why he was asking me all these questions, and I started to feel a little uncomfortable, but then I also started to feel kind of lightheaded and numb and like I was really drunk, but I didn’t think I had drunk that much.”

Then, she says, Nygard raped her.

“He laid me on the bed, pulled up my dress, held me down and raped me anally, and I just didn’t know what to do,” she said tearfully.

“I had never felt pain like that before and I was scared, but I was alone. And I couldn’t stop it.”

After the rapes, the prosecution said, Nygard “showered her with money.”

Nygard: Allegations part of a conspiracy by his neighbor

Nygard, a wealthy Canadian clothing manufacturer, denies all allegations in the lawsuits against him, saying they were fabricated as part of a conspiracy with a neighbor in the Bahamas.

The long-running dispute between Nygard and his neighbor, retired billionaire hedge fund manager Louis Bacon, began as a property dispute over a decade ago and has escalated into a series of legal proceedings in several countries.

Nygard claims that many of his accusers were paid to make up stories about him.

Jane Doe 16 also says in the lawsuit that “Nygard coerced her into attending a swinger sexual encounter on Nygard Cay.”

“I did what he said,” she said in an interview with CBC and CTV. “He wanted me to be with certain men and certain women.”

Eventually, the lawsuit says, Nygard “let her go” when he decided to return to Canada.

The lawsuit goes on to say that Nygard caused his alleged victims “serious and lasting harm, including physical, psychological and emotional damage.”

“It affected my relationships,” Jane Doe 16 said in the interview.

“It’s affected my whole life. You know, the post-traumatic trauma, the depression, it haunts me every day, and I know that no matter what happens to Peter, it will probably never go away.”
