Update: Atlanta performance car pileup includes more than 15 cars

A new video from the scene shows the aftermath and reveals a secondary pileup behind the first.

  • A recent pileup in Atlanta involved more than a dozen high-performance cars.
  • New video from the scene shows when things went from bad to worse.
  • Despite the carnage, everyone avoided serious injury.

Driving safely requires constant attention and vigilance. When either is compromised, bad things can happen. Over the weekend, an accident involving Mustangs, Challengers and other performance cars occurred. Now, new video shows part of the original crash and reveals that another performance car pileup happened right behind the first.

The crash took place on I-285 in Atlanta, Georgia, and was notable for at least two reasons. First, witnesses on site claimed that the drivers were all racing. Second, every car involved seemed to be performance-oriented. This is basically what most of us expect when people drive recklessly.

People close to the accident when it happened also had recording devices that showed part of it. In one clip, we see the purple Toyota Supra approaching stopped traffic. He appears to stop in time, but almost immediately a white Ford Mustang rear-ends. Surprisingly, a Chevrolet Camaro manages to narrowly dodge the Ford just before the accident.

Unfortunately for the Supra, it swerves and hits a Dodge Challenger which then appears to hit a Mustang and the performance car dominoes begin to fall. According to a person who claims to have been there, “the white Mustang hit the supra, causing the pileup.” They go on to say that before this accident, there was another involving a black BMW and a black Ford Mustang. Additionally, another pileup occurred behind this one.

The video shows a Mercedes, a Dodge Challenger, two BMWs, a Chevrolet Camaro and a white Dodge Neon SRT-4 all involved and damaged. Of all the cars, one, what appears to be a Honda Accord, is the only non-performing car in the group.

Despite all of this, we find no serious injuries reported, which is by far the best news here. At the rate insurance companies are totaling cars these days, we expect to see several of those involved here in salvage yards sooner or later.
