Buffalo’s Michigan St. Corridor will receive new funding

The Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor in Buffalo is set to receive $100,000 in new funding, Sen. Chuck Schumer announced Friday. The money will fund the hiring of additional staff, increase the accessibility of the museum’s offerings in the community, and create new content and exhibition programs.

Funding will support the Michigan Street Baptist Church, Nash House Museum, Historic Musicians of Color Club and Jazz Museum, WUFO 1080 AM Black Radio History Collective and the Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor.

“This $100,000 in federal funding for the Michigan Street Heritage Corridor – from the Baptist Church to the Jazz Museum – will preserve the vibrant history of Western New York, while ensuring a thriving arts and culture sector for years to come. come,” said Senator Schumer. “By investing in five sites along the Michigan Street Heritage Corridor and improving access to vital collections, we are ensuring that locals and tourists can enjoy these historic landmarks while creating jobs for local New Yorkers. The federal funding is part of a grant to Museums of African American History and Culture (AAHC) from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
