Porsche accident in Pune: What do we know so far?

1) The Mumbai Crime Branch is investigating the May 19 hit-and-run accident. The minor drove his fancy racing car into the two IT professionals on a motorcycle, killing them instantly. The Crime Branch summoned the accused’s grandfather, the driver and a friend on Thursday to reconstruct the sequence of events on the night before the hit-and-run accident. ANI reported.

2) Police said the youth allegedly drank alcohol at different bars – Cosie Bar and Blak Bar – and then sped down a narrow street in Maharashtra’s Pune, killing two motorcyclists on Sunday night.

3) The youth was released on bail with his grandfather acting as surety. The juvenile court ordered that the accused teenager should write a 300-word essay and do 15 days of community service as punishment. Interestingly, the grandfather was booked by the CBI for hiring Chhota Rajan to kill Shiv Sena leader Ajay Bhosale in 2009.

4) Superintendent of Police Amitesh Kumar said that the juvenile court is yet to receive any order requiring the Maharashtra Police to treat the accused teenager as an adult. Advocate Prashant Patil, who represented the youth at the juvenile court hearing, said that treating a juvenile like an accused adult may take at least two months as reports from psychiatrists and counsellors are required, among other things, before the juvenile court takes its decision.

5) The court on Wednesday ordered Vishal Agarwal (50), the minor’s father, and two employees of Hotel Blak Club, Nitesh Shevani and Jayesh Gavkar, to be remanded in police custody till May 24.

6) Police announced that the boy was traveling with two of his friends in a luxury car about 48,000 in a pub hours before the accident, NDTV reported.

7) According to India today Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has reportedly refuted claims that the 17-year-old boy involved in the Porsche accident was given “pizza and burgers” while in custody following the incident on May 19.

8) Police have also filed a case against a minor under various sections of the IPC and the Motor Vehicles Act following an incident on Sunday. In addition, the teenager’s father has been booked under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act for allowing his son to drive without a license and for endangering his life by providing liquor.

9) The police have also initiated legal action against the owner and employees of the two bars where the minor is believed to have consumed alcohol prior to the accident. They are accused of serving alcohol to a minor and thus contributing to the circumstances that led to the incident.

10) The two young IT professionals from Madhya Pradesh were identified as Ashwini Koshta and Aneesh Awadhia.
