Metro Atlanta Jamaican Restaurant Destroyed by Fire Gets Help from Popular Chicken Chain – WSB-TV Channel 2

ATLANTA — Simone John says she always knew his friends and neighbors cared about him, but they never suddenly did.

“We never imagined that our little cabin could bring so much love from everyone,” Simone said. Berndt Petersen from Channel 2.

Simone and her husband, Chef Jay John, are the longtime owners of Jamaican Dat Fire Jerk Chicken in southwest Atlanta. The charred remains of their restaurant can be found all over Northside Drive since a fire last month.

“I think it’s a beautiful thing. It moves the community forward. I think it’s beautiful,” said loyal customer Shon Floyd.

But the line outside their food truck Tuesday was down the street.

The meals were home-cooked, courtesy of the South African restaurant brand called Nando’s PERi-PERi Chicken, which will open two restaurants in the metro area later this year.

“Today, they are sponsoring 404 meals. Oh my God! It’s amazing,” said Chef Jay.

404 as the Atlanta area code. It’s a gesture of goodwill, from one restaurant to another.

“You look around. Everyone is so excited to come here and try their food today,” said Krista McLay of Nando’s.

Chef Jay says most of the customers were first-timers. He hopes they will become regulars and he is very grateful to Nando’s.

“It proves that if you do the right things for the community, people ‘watch’ and people ‘watch,’” Chief Jay said. “It’s just a wonderful feeling.”
