Buffalo Sabres GM Kevyn Adams takes different approach to 2024 NHL Draft

LAS VEGAS, NV (WKBW) — On the eve of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft in Las Vegas, Buffalo Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams made it clear that he and his staff are open to any type of roster move.

“We are actively shopping,” GMKA said exactly when speaking to reporters Thursday afternoon. This came just an hour after Buffalo traded the 11th overall pick to San Jose for the 14th and 42nd overall picks.

Adams added that just because they made this decision with San Jose doesn’t mean they’re done. So what else could he do? Well, he has more assets to raise and he even mentioned that he might trade them again. But he’s also open to making decisions that don’t give the team draft picks in return. Like moving forward Jeff Skinner.

“As I said maybe a week ago, everything is on the table. We will look at all possible scenarios to see if they are business opportunities to improve our team. No final decision “It’s still been taken regarding Jeff because we’re not there yet. We really need to see how this evolves,” Adams said.

Moving away from Skinner’s talk, Adams made it clear that this organization is in a position where adding more talent to the roster now, rather than continuing to develop the prospect pipeline, is paramount to this team’s success this season and beyond.

“I felt like the last three years with the draft was really about building the pipeline and getting assets into our organization. And we’re still going to do that, but it’s flipped in terms of needing to do things. We have to be a competitive team that makes the playoffs and competes for an opportunity to do what we all want to do here, which is win a Stanley Cup,” Adams said.

The first round of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft begins Friday, June 28 at 7 p.m. Rounds two through seven begin Saturday, June 29 at 11:30 a.m.
