Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms joins Biden campaign as Trump leads in the Peach State

Democratic former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has signed on as a senior adviser to the Biden campaign amid polling data suggesting the commander in chief is trailing former President Donald Trump in the Peach State.

Trump won the state in the 2016 election cycle, but narrowly lost it to Biden in 2020. He currently maintains an average 4.0% lead over Biden in Georgia, according to RealClearPolitics. The state’s 16 electoral votes will likely prove critical in deciding the 2024 election, and Bottoms expressed fears about the consequences of a Trump victory.

“We often say that every election is the most important election of our lifetime,” Bottoms told EBONY. “This one absolutely is. We’ve spent four years plagued by Donald Trump’s erratic policies and behavior and four more years of promised retaliation against his political enemies is just the tip of the iceberg of the chaos he will bring America once again.”

Bottoms served as mayor from 2018 to 2022, then advised the White House on public engagement and served as vice chair of the Democratic National Committee, according to The Hill.

The Peach State has been highlighted in Trump’s election fraud allegations and he faces charges from Fulton County Prosecutor Fani Willis over his challenges, although that case has been stayed by a state court. State’s appeal.
