Several people arrested, deputy sheriff bitten by dog ​​during investigation in Guyton

An Effingham County Sheriff’s Office officer was bitten by a dog during an investigation in Guyton on Tuesday afternoon. Details of the investigation are unknown, but according to a news release, the incident occurred at 4:30 p.m.

As officers approached the residence at 1409 Courthouse Road, the male suspect fled and entered the home while another woman was found barricaded behind a door.

The man eventually surrendered, but as he was bringing the woman into the house, the homeowner’s dog bit one of the officers. The dog was then shot. It is unclear who the dog belonged to.

The officer was taken to the hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A total of three people were arrested.
