Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper Expands to Protect More Waterways in WNY

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The organization charged with keeping our region’s waterways clean is expanding its operations.

Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper has a new jurisdiction, which includes all of eastern Lake Erie and several communities in Western New York, extending to the Pennsylvania border.

Local leaders say the expansion will help create access to our waterways for all Western New Yorkers.

“Our waterfront is a gem that belongs to everyone in the city and this region, and it’s really about ensuring that as we develop and grow as a city, we also have conversations about our waterfront to make sure it stays free of pollutants, and that when we have development, it’s responsible development along our waterfront,” said Buffalo Common Council Member Mitch Nowakowski for the Fillmore district.

The expansion comes as Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper celebrates its 35th anniversary.
