Monsoon storms could bring strong, erratic winds, hail, lightning and heavy rain to mountains – NBC 7 San Diego

It has been hot, but it will be even hotter near the coast where the heat will peak today. Temperatures could average between 32 and 35 degrees a few kilometers from the coast.

Dangerous heat will keep coastal areas under heat advisories through Monday night. Temperatures will range from 26 to 32 degrees, with overnight lows between 21 and 25 degrees. Cooling centers will be a great option for those without air conditioning.

Registrations will be possible in parts of the county such as Ramona, Escondido and Alpine.

An excessive heat warning is also in effect for the valleys and foothills through Monday night with temperatures between 102 and 110 degrees and a slight risk of thunderstorms. Thunderstorm risks will be higher in the mountains and deserts today.

Monsoon moisture will continue to trigger storms, just like yesterday, but we will have a greater chance of thunderstorms today. Thunderstorms could produce up to a half-inch of rain, gusty winds and lightning.

Winds will change Monday, but thunderstorms could still develop in the mountains. The air will become drier by Tuesday, with significant cooling by mid- to late-week. Temperatures will return to near normal by Thursday.

Be careful and take breaks when necessary. Staying hydrated and cool will be a challenge.
