The United Nations called for Israeli occupation soldiers to be held accountable for the sexual assault of a Palestinian prisoner in the Sde Teiman detention camp after surveillance camera footage went viral on social media.

This was stated by the spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Farhan Haq, during a press conference in New York in response to a question about the inhumane practices to which Palestinian prisoners are subjected in Israeli prisons.

The UN official added: “We have published special reports on our concerns about the status of Palestinian prisoners.”

“Our colleagues working in the field of human rights in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories will continue to investigate all these allegations,” he stressed.

The UN representative stated: “We believe that all these allegations of violations of fundamental human rights criteria must be fully investigated and accountability ensured.”
