DeRidder City Council leaves mayor’s investigation to state police

DERIDDER, Louisiana (KPLC) – The DeRidder City Council has decided not to launch an investigation into Misty Roberts Clanton, who resigned as mayor on Saturday, July 27.

The council decided to leave the investigation to the state police.

One day before her resignation, Roberts announced she would be absent for two weeks. The DeRidder Council immediately called today’s meeting to investigate whether Roberts’ absence was related to the allegations against her.

Roberts has since resigned and the Louisiana State Police have confirmed that they have launched an investigation into her.

However, neither the council nor the state police have made any concrete allegations.

Roberts appointed Fire Chief Ken Harlow as mayor pro tempore. The position will now be offered to City Council President Randy Larken.

If Larken accepts the election, he will serve as mayor pro tempore until next year. The mayoralty vote will take place in the municipal election on March 29, 2025.
