Calendar Picks: Houston in the Blind and Thayer Sarrano

Calendar Picks: Houston in the Blind and Thayer Sarrano

Former Athens bands Houston in the Blind and Thayer Sarrano are reuniting to play a show celebrating the former’s upcoming album release. Houston in the Blind kicked off with a nine-track album titled Members in 2015, which proved its indie rock potential, with seductive soundscapes and melancholic lyrics. This year’s release, Hide the glowis a marked departure, written after frontman Charlie Garrett’s move to Los Angeles in 2016 and the subsequent disbandment of his band. As a result, its themes center on change and resilience, and its sound inflects glimmers of hope. Thayer Sarrano is an artist who specializes in haunting, ethereal compositions and Leonard Cohen-inspired lyricism. Her most recent release, 2019’s Wings Hallelujahis dark and fuzzy with a spiritual backbone, giving it a transcendental energy. In Russell Rockwell’s review of Atlanta immersiveHe sums up the sentiment: “If the A-side is a baptism with rejuvenating water, then the A-side is a baptism with purifying fire.” Sarrano is also a successful touring artist, having headlined in the U.S. and Europe and toured with Television, Robyn Hitchcock, Drive-By Truckers and many others.
