One of the surfers killed in Mexico was engaged

One of the surfers found murdered during a recent trip to Baja California, Mexico, got engaged and married this summer.

Brothers Jake Robinson, 30, and Callum Robinson, 33, traveled with their boyfriend Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, on a surfing trip in late April. Their bodies were discovered with gunshot wounds in a well after they failed to show up at the accommodation they had booked in Rosarito.

An online wedding registry from Zola states that Rhoad planned to tie the knot with Natalie Weirtz on August 17 in Columbus, Ohio.

On the website, just below the date and option to attend, there is a photo of the couple smiling while walking hand in hand.

The night before, the couple planned to host a welcome party with family and friends.

“Following the heartbreaking loss of Carter Rhoad, Callum Robinson and Jake Robinson, our hearts are aching with grief for their families, friends and community,” organizer Aubrey Byers began in a GoFundMe account posted on Sunday, May 5th .

“Her presence brought immeasurable joy, love and kindness to those around her and left a mark on our lives.”

Byers described herself as “a good friend of Carter and Natalie” before explaining the purpose of the page.

“We created this GoFundMe page for two reasons: The first is to raise support for Natalie during this unimaginably difficult time and to provide essentials such as shelter, food, transportation and more,” she wrote. “The second is to honor Carter by raising money for scholarships and donations that are close to his heart. No donation is too small and every contribution is greatly appreciated.”

As of Monday, May 6, the GoFundMe had reached over $50,000 of its $250,000 goal.

A photo shared on the account showed Rhoad and Weirtz laughing together during an outdoor sunset photo shoot.

“If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page with your community. Together, we can continue to surround this family with the love and support they need to navigate this challenging journey. Thank you for your kindness, compassion and solidarity during this time of profound loss,” Byers concluded.

Jake, Callum and Rhoad were last seen surfing and camping on the Mexican coast south of Ensenada on April 27th.

On Friday, May 3, officials released a statement saying their bodies were found at the bottom of a 50-foot-deep well in a deserted part of Santo Tomas, Baja California, according to NBC San Diego.

Authorities believe the surfers were shot because the attackers wanted the tires of the truck the victims were driving, according to the Associated Press.

Baja California’s chief prosecutor, María Elena Andrade Ramírez, said during a news conference that the men were likely killed as they tried to fend off the robbers.

While she said a fourth body was found in the well, she added: “There is a lot of important information that we are not allowed to release.”
