YoYos Hot Dog announces the official opening of a physical store

“Please come join our celebration,” reads the new Instagram post, signed by “Yoyo,” about the official grand opening, which is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at 4620 Washington Avenue. A call to the number listed for YoYo went unanswered Wednesday.

The news follows an ownership dispute within the 14-year-old company between founder Danny “YoYo” Kim and Kevin Dang,

In February, owner and founder Danny “YoYo” Kim told customers via Facebook “someone was pretending to be YoYos Hot Dogs” and his account was banned.

According to Kim, Dang joined the popular late-night food truck for four years with the goal of growing it, but Kim refuted claims that an investment deal ever took place. Kim told the Chronicle the two had an informal agreement.

“We have currently lost access to our Instagram account due to the identity theft and are currently considering legal action,” Kim wrote on Facebook in February. “It’s unfortunate that we have to share this news with you all, but please be patient as we work to regain access to our Instagram account.”

The dispute also extended to the company’s POST location in Houston, in which Dang said he invested his personal savings. Kim closed the store to change the lease from Dang’s name to his own, according to a previous Chronicle article.

The Washington site had three investors — Kim, Dang and Peter Montes, they told the Chronicle in May. Everyone involved told the Chronicle they wanted to open it, but first they had to agree on a division of the property.

Before announcing the official opening of the Washington Avenue location, the last post shared on the Instagram account was in September.

YoYos Hot Dogs started as a food truck. Customers were eagerly awaiting the signature item: a grilled 100% beef dog in a toasted bun with cream cheese, topped with caramelized onions and crunchy fried onions and drizzled with red sauce and a special “YoYos sauce”.
